“Indeed, we sent it [i.e., the Qur’ān] down during the Night of Decree (١)
And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree (٢) The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months (٣)...”

Some Signs of Laylatul Qadr.
1- Peaceful Night
From this ayah (verse) we can understand that Laylatul Qadr is a peaceful, pleasant, calm night.
“سَلَـٰمٌ هِىَ حَتَّىٰ مَطْلَعِ ٱلْفَجْرِ ٥
Peace it is until the emergence of dawn (٥)”
Surah Al-Qadr (97:5).

Also, it was narrated that Ibn Khuzayma said: “It [Laylatul Qadr] is a night that is neither hot nor cold.
2- Possible Rain
There are narrations that the Prophet (ﷺ) in his dream that he was prostrating in mud and water on the night of Laylatul Qadr.
3- The Sun
There are narrations that the Prophet (ﷺ) told the sahaba that after the night of Laylatul Qadr, the sun will rise bright without rays. This means it will be easy to look at the sun and it will not have rays during the sunrise.
What To Do During The Last 10 Days and On Laylatul Qadr?
1- Itikaf
It is Sunnah of the Prophet (ﷺ) to do I’tikaf during the last 10 days of Ramadan. Itikaf is performed by taking a break from all worldly affairs (such as work, school, hobbies, etc.) and dedicating your full time to worshiping Allah. Itikaf activities include doing extra Salat (like sunnah prayers, taraweeh, tahajjud), reciting thikr, and reciting and studying the Quran. Those in itikaf usually stay in masjid during the whole time, sleeping in the masjid as well. They don’t go outside of the masjid except in case of emergencies. Doing itikaf for a shorter period of time like only one night, a whole day, or a couple of days, is encouraged and rewarded as well.
2- Reflect
Reflection is a very important part of worship, as it helps us have a clear mind and sincere heart when we are asking Allah to forgive our wrong doings and when we are asking Allah to accept our duas.
The Prophet (ﷺ) told us that if we pray with sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah on Laylatul Qadr, all our previous sins will be erased.
Some ways to reflect and practice mindfulness and sincerity:
- Write a list of all the Duas you want to ask of Allah during this night.
- Journal about your future goals, write a plan for how you will take steps to these goals, and ask Allah to help you in them.
- Study the tafsir of the Quran. Think about the meanings and how it relate to you personally. It’s really good practice to study the tafsir of surahs that you will use in prayer so that you truly know the meanings when you recite these surahs in prayers, which in turn makes your prayer more sincere.
3. Recite This Sunnah Dua.
Aisha, radiya Allahu ‘anha (may Allah be pleased with her), asked the Prophet (ﷺ) what Dua to make on Laylatul Qadr. The Prophet (ﷺ) replied: "Say: 'Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa, fa'fu 'anni (O Allah, You are Forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me).'"
